What we have done so far:
The Safer Leicester Partnership has been in operation since 1999. During this time, we have achieved a lot in terms of reducing crime and disorder and increasing community safety.
What we did:
Our previous strategy, spanning April 2002 to March 2005, saw a number of successes for the Partnership. In the last year of the strategy, ending March 2005, the Partnership achieved all but three of our sixteen targets.
During 2004-2005 we:
reduced domestic burglary by 9%.
reduced burglaries in other city centre premises (e.g. shops) by 6%.
reduced robberies in the city centre by 16%.
reduced vehicle crime by 27% in the city centre and 25% across the city.
reduced deliberate ignitions to vehicles by 30% over the last three years.
reduced deliberate ignitions to property and in the open by 27% in the last year.
We also worked very closely with Leicester Racial Equality Council and Leicester Domestic Violence Forum to increase reporting of racial harassment and domestic violence incidents, both of which are seriously under-reported. We undertook work to improve our understanding of and response to anti-social behaviour, and worked with partners to tackle drugs.
Safer Leicester Partnership also worked extremely hard with partners to promote services that are available in Leicester to support all victims and witnesses that have experienced any type of crime. In the last year alone Leicester Witness Cocoon together with Victim Support have contacted and offered support to over 7,000 victims and witnesses in Leicester.
