Background, History, etc

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a new statutory responsibility onto Local Authorities and the Police to set up new partnerships with the Police Authority, Probation Service and Health Authority.
 
The new partnerships were required to conduct a comprehensive local audit of crime and disorder that would help to develop and implement a strategy for reducing crime and disorder.
 
Safer Leicester Partnership partners include;
 
  • Leicester City Council
  • Leicestershire Constabulary
  • Leicestershire & Rutland Probation Service
  • Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service
  • NHS Primary Care Trust
 
The Safer Leicester Partnership (SLP) is responsible for the development and progress of the strategic assessment on crime & disorder.
 
 
 
Partnership Priorities
1
Violent Crime - reduce domestic violence, rape and sexual assault, racial violence and homophobic violence and the harm it causes.

Stronger Neighbourhoods Delivery Group – tackle anti-social behaviour, with a focus on reducing anti-social behaviour in priority neighbourhoods and preventing anti-social behaviour by young people.

Drugs and alcohol - reduce the harm caused by drugs and alcohol both to individuals and to communities

Acquisitive Crime - reduce drug related acquisitive crime, (burglary, vehicle crime), the number of young people committing offences and harm caused by substance misuse among young people

Reducing Re-offending - reduce levels of adult re-offending Prolific and other Priority Offenders and violent offenders
