Active Learning Tool - reducing re-offending

Crime can have a devastating affect on the lives of victims, offenders, families, and on communities.  The tool has been developed to demonstrate the crucial role of effective and integrated public service involvement in breaking the cycle of re-offending.  This tool is intended to increase awareness and encourage joint working to address the underlying causes of offending behaviour.  It is designed for practitioners, service users and policy officers who seek to address social exclusion and prevent offending and re-offending.  Click here for more information.

Safer World Cup

The Safer Leicester Partnership has undertaken another campaign to ensure that citizens of Leicester enjoy themselves in safety, free from violence and disorder. They have developed a Safer World Cup Campaign to highlight the links between alcohol, domestic violence, harassment and serious injury.  During such major sporting events, there can be increases in violence and disorder, and more serious injuries can arise.

The campaign encourages people to enjoy the passion but hate the violence, promoting positive self help messages.  The posters give people contact numbers to report incidents and receive support.  There are also bus adverts and giveaways such as whistles and cards with world cup fixtures on the back and safety messages on the front.  Click here for more information.

One Safer Leicester

The Safer Leicester Partnership is working to make the city centre safer at night-time. Police and licensing staff at the city council work with licensees to ensure venues are run properly and responsibly and they are able to quickly address any issue that arises. The Best Bar None scheme is used to promote these aims and advise the public of where to go for a safe night out.

Crime Prevention is at the heart of this work and the police have a visible presence during the night to reduce the possibilities of alcohol related crime and disorder.  A dedicated police officer works with ambulance service staff to respond quickly to any injuries that might occur in the night. City wardens offer a reassuring presence and street pastors are available to support anyone in need of emotional support.

This campaign is part of the Safer Leicester Partnership Campaign to show some of the initiatives that take place across the city to assist in making a night out in Leicester safer and enjoyable and open to all.

We want a safe and attractive city centre with a diverse night time economy, accessible to all while protecting the quality of life for residents.  Click here for more information visit.

One Brilliant Future

YOUNGSTERS across Leicester are getting the chance to say how they help make the city a better place.

They are being called on to take part in a campaign challenging negative beliefs about young people and showing instead, the positive activities in which they are involved.

The campaign is entitled One Brilliant Future, and participants can submit pictures, videos, artwork, writing or music showcasing what young people have to offer.

Weekly winners will be chosen and will receive a £50 prize, with 25 weekly entrants also winning USB wristbands. The competition runs until August 1 - after which some of the winning entries will feature on a citywide poster campaign.

Click here for more information.  The One Brilliant Future campaign was developed by the Safer Leicester Partnership, and is being run in partnership with One Leicester.

The competition is managed by the city's Diversity Hub - a voluntary organisation focusing on community cohesion and youth issues, which is also running 'Truth About Youth' workshops for young people over the summer.
