We worked very closely with Leicester Racial Equality Council and Leicester Domestic Violence Forum to increase reporting of racial harassment and domestic violence incidents, both of which are seriously under-reported.
We undertook work to improve our understanding of and response to anti-social behaviour, and worked with partners to tackle drugs.
We also worked extremely hard with partners to promote victims and witnesses services available in the city.
2008
In March 2008, Leicester City Council and its partners involved in the Safer Leicester Partnership were announced as a Beacon Authority for Reducing Re-offending - one of the highest accolades of award schemes.
As a Beacon authority for Reducing Re-offending, we are committed to sharing our practice and learning with others working in the field of reducing re-offending. Find out more about the Beacon Scheme or view the Beacon Reducing Re-offending Theme Guide
We have also worked closely with partners to tackle drugs. This has led to an increase in seizures of Class A drugs by 9% over two years, reducing the supply of drugs in Leicester. We have also increased the number of drug treatment programmes available and the number of problematic drug users in treatment.
We have developed strong partnerships between the police, the Youth Offending Service and the Probation Service to effectively manage the most prolific offenders in Leicester, a small number of offenders who are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime. This has led to reductions in the seriousness of the offences that they commit as well as the number of offences that they commit. Over the last year the number of offences committed by both adult and juvenile prolific offenders has more than halved.
We have worked very closely with partners to promote the support services that are available for all victims and witnesses that have experienced any type of crime.
