Leicester City Council's Community Safety Team has produced a booklet entitled 'A Positive Guide for Older People'. The information contained in the guide aims to give practical advice and ideas that older people might want to consider to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime.
This guide covers crime reduction, home security, the fear of crime, doorstep crime and personal safety.
One of the main crimes which very often is aimed at older or more vulnerable people within our communities is Distraction Burglary or Doorstep Crime. The guide provides useful information on:
- what to look out for
- examples of what people might say to gain entry to a property
- what to do if you think you have been a victim of doorstep crime
- home security devices that are available to help you to stay safe
