You CAN do something about domestic violence, and it can be fun!
To mark the close of one year's hard work and the start of another year's campaign a number of events took place across the city this month.
The key aim of the campaign was to increase understanding of what domestic violence is, how it affect's people and to make people aware of the resources that are available locally and to challenge acceptance of domestic violence. The focus this year was on older people.
It is surprising how many people in Leicester still don’t know that there are services to help them if they are affected by domestic violence. Many victims may accept the abuse or think that no-one will believe them. Often perpetrators of domestic violence will keep on justifying their own abusive behaviour. These attitudes and beliefs are what we wish to change.
This is where you CAN do something; we need all service areas to be proactive about raising awareness of domestic violence and support services in Leicester. in 2010 the Leicester Domestic Violence Forum Partnership (LDFVP) launched a new domestic violence booklet aimed at young adults, and have other resources available including posters, leaflets and other booklets for public displays.
