The Warning Zone was developed by Leicestershire & Rutland Crimebeat.

The Warning Zone has been developed to teach young people , aged 10 to 11 years, vital safety messages in a variety of situations.

Every accident and emergency department could testify to the alarming number of injuries and deaths occurring within the most vulnerable groups in our society. They also know that many of these could have been prevented.

Facts: -

  • Over a million children (10% of all under 15s) will visit hospital each year following an accident at home. (ROSPA, Dept. of Trade & Industry, 1999)
  • Across the UK, 4100 children were killed or seriously injured in road traffic accidents in 2003. (Dept. of Transport)
  • In 2005, 70% of all fires in Leicestershire were started deliberately. Arson!
  • Approximately 1/3 of all cyclists killed or seriously injured are children. (ROSPA May 2003)
The centre also has an anti-social behaviour theme running through each scenario. All young visitors learn that at the age of 10 they become criminally responsible for themselves and the consequences of their actions.

The centre is open to schools and community groups from Monday to Friday throughout the year.
